You can no longer live here

You have no choice but to move

Do you have everything

Before you have to

Up and Leave

Buckingham Fountain to Leroy Neiman Center. Chicago, IL. June 15, 2019.

UP and LEAVE was an act of preparation, devotion to task, and execution of the act of moving a house. When people are preparing to relocate houses, it is between one house to another. They pack up their belongings (essentials and anything extra) and they transport those belongings with them into their new house. But in the case of forced circumstance, someone might be less inclined to take anything beyond the absolute essentials that they could carry. It is an act of devotion to possessions to choose to carry it from one location to another. With this in mind, I propose that the most essential thing to carry when moving houses is the shelter itself. The idea of shelter, in whatever form it exists– sentimental object, or necessity of survival. In the performance UP and LEAVE, I carried a house, made of concrete and wood from Buckingham Fountain to the Leroy Neiman Center in Chicago, IL.
